Q. What happens when you have 6 web developers, 3 entrepreneurs, 2 students, 1 mechanical engineer and a telco guy in a room talking about an idea?
A. Magic!
Case in point: At last Thursday’s TeamCamp meeting Ian pitched an idea for an application that he’s already prototyped and uses regularly. Everyone could immediately see the benefits of the application, but surely it had been done already? We talked about similar applications already existing; there are elements of Ian’s idea in each one, but none were quite the same. As TeamCampers enthusiastically offered suggestions the idea began to evolve and the conversation turned to development. We talked about ways to implement the idea, for example, by utilizing APIs available through popular web apps. Suddenly, rapid implementation of this idea seemed quite possible. Further discussion spawned variations on the idea and thoughts on how to market and monetize the application. We wrapped up by talking about next steps.
I’m always amazed to witness how a spark of an idea can morph from one thing to the next until suddenly you realize that you have an idea for something truly unique. That’s what happens when you get web enthusiasts from dramatically different backgrounds with a singular goal: to come up with ideas for new businesses.
